In this section, we will share with you our notes and observations on the topic of men and manhood, that we keep jotting down from time to time.
You can also post your own notes on "Men and Manhood".
In our social system built around gender there's an absolute loathing of female carnality. Why wouldn't there be? It threatens the paternal genealogy. It threatens the nuclear family. It threatens reproduction and motherhood. So female carnality is socially defined to be demeaning - a woman is 'taken' and 'conquered' and 'fucked' and becomes somehow 'spoiled' and loses dignity when she has sex. In our desi vernacular, 'aurat apni marwaati hai' and 'aadmi aurat ki layta/phaarta/maarta hai'. This social construction of female carnality is not only misogynistic but also the origin of homophobia. In this account of sexuality in which 'getting fucked' is demeaning, the sexual liberation women and gays becomes nonsensical.
